Camino Friends

by Leslie on September 16, 2008

I received a postcard today from Ponferrada which holds a special place in my heart.

I walked from there with two pilgrims 3 years ago, one went ahead to Santiago and we joined them in Santiago. The one that went ahead to Santiago, Nora, sent me the card because she also knows it will mean something to me.

Anna and I were sick and had to rest for a few days and met up with Nora in Santiago de Compostela. Since then Anna and I have walked together all over Europe and Canada, and we live together now – that is why it is so special.

I got to know both of them from Ponferrada on and both are still friends three years later.

I have also received several hundred photos – which is great, but it also gives me a problem. I will have to choose which ones to use on the website – I think they could all be used. The website will be redeveloped during the coming winter and then at last there will be a good photo album.

Thanks Nora.

I absolutely love your website; I think about the Camino de Santiago every day, even though I have yet had the privilege to walk it.

Thinking about the hundreds of photos you have received, perhaps you could set up an account at flickr.com and people could post their photos there, with a link back to your blog. Flickr has an “add to blog” feature that makes it very easy to do. I for one would love to see all of them, even as you suggested. Let us know what you decide to do… and thank you again for keeping this wonderful journey alive here on the internet. Love reading your blog.

Can you add a link so we can be updated when there are new entries and comments? Thanks…

Thanks Catherine for your vote of confidence. I will be re-designing the site a little over the winter and adding more information. The main parts of the site were written nearly three years ago and people have asked so many more question now than I currently answer.

However this is not a paying job so it get squeezed in when I have time.

With the photos – well I don’t want to give them away to flickr and I will put them up on the site – that addresses the biggest complaint visitors have about the site – I have not put enough effort into displaying photos, so that will change.

With regards to the updates on posts and comments I will have a look at what I can do there.

Thanks for your continued support.

Dear Leslie, I just now happened onto this particular page and saw you had answered my comment back in September, soon after I posted it! I will try signing up again for Google Reader for comments and blog changes. I absolutely love your Camino de Santiago blog and think about it all the time – think about what it must mean to be able to go on such a wonderful pilgrimage and the realizations and changes that go along with it. I often click back here just to look at the photo used on the header. Love it! Thank you so much for squeezing this in amongst everything else that one “has to” do in this world. Your friend, Catherine
