I received an email from a friend last night who is in the middle of her first Camino, the Camino Frances. She has had some health problems, mostly feet and tendons. However there was one part of the mail where she talked about her Camino friends, people she has met during the last two weeks.
It took me back. I have never talked to so many new people over a short period of time than when I have been on the Camino. Also I talked to them for hours at a time – oh yeah and I did also listen in the same way. There was just so much time that I did not have to hurry people through what they were say so we could move on due to time pressures – that is what my daily life is often like. I often feel like I don’t have enoght time and want people to get to the point quickly – don’t waste my time -just in such a hurry.
I learned a few years ago to slow down. Slow down in everything. When I did this life was easier. I stopped having useless anger at other car drivers, less useless anger in shops – just less useless anger all round. One of the results of this was having a lot more energy and feeling connected to people and the world around me.
I still know some of the people from three years ago on the Camino. I like that.
