The main characteristic that the people who thought there were geniuses and most of the very religious had in common was arrogance.  Just my experience, it doesn’t mean it is true.

I met a priest recently in the Czech Republic, he lives on the edge of Prague and runs the St James church.  In my opinion he is a very intelligent individual, he is easy to talk with, and has no problem with questions – there is no or little arrogance to be seen in him.

I like the idea that Elizabeth Gilbert puts forward in this video – not owning the genius in yourself.  I had to the pleasure of studying Greek history while at uni, the idea of the muse – great.

When people take too much outward pleasure in their own self I do get uncomfortable – though I do believe one should see and acknowledge internally ones own achievements.
