Arriving late & finding accomodation
Hi to all,
two days ago I decided to book a ticket and start the Camino (first ever trek). I leave in 10 days time, and I arrive in Bordeaux at 14.30. By the time I get to St Jean Pied du Port it will be 22.30 at night.
I'm having trouble booking a hostel and would like to know how to find a bed for the night upon arrival. Also need to get a pilgrim passport. Any help would be grateful.
Thank you
Giancarlo

Re: Arriving late & finding accomodation
Hi Giancarlo,
From memory, I think the last train from Bayonne gets into St. Jean at approx 7;30 in the evening. If you are not going to make that, I would think of staying in Bayonne overnight and getting the first train in the morning. There are many reasonable hotels in Bayonne and it may be the best option if you are running late. If you do manage to arrive in St. Jean at 22;30, do not worry. The Camino will always provide and someone will arrange something for you. You can get the passport at the starters office next morning if it is closed when you arrive. Enjoy your Camino.
Regards,
Sean

Re: Arriving late & finding accomodation
Hi Giancarlo ~
Have you already tried to contact Espirit du Chemin for housing in St. Jean? Their website is Espirit du Chemin . There are also hotel options in St. Jean, but they can be expensive. Yes, as Sean says you can get your credencial the next morning at the pilgrim office. Buen camino!

Re: Arriving late & finding accomodation
Hi Sean & HuskyNerd,
thank you for answers. I have not contacted them as they are closed for the season, but just realised that they do offer other options to sleep.
I just noticed that the late train arriving in SJJP only runs on weekends so getting there that same evening will be out of the question. I may stay in Bayonne and then get the next morning train which arrives at 1.15 pm!
I am told that it is worth walking to Orisson and spend the night there? I would then have a fresh start the day after to Roncesvalles...
Once again many thanks!
