Summer weather on the Camino del Norte? Do I need rain gear?

I am starting my Camino del Norte on July 1st. Do I need to bring rain gear with me? It is extra dead weight that I could leave at home.

You've probably heard the expression, "The rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain".

Well, it's not true. The rain in Spain falls mainly on the mountains in the north, which is where you're going.

I always bring rain gear and I have always used it, even if only for a day or two. Last July we had three days of rain and wind and cold. I was soaked even with the rain gear but at least it offered protection from the cold and wind.

I'm leaving Irun on the 29th and from what i gather it's always necessary to carry for both personal comfort and peace of mind that your prepared for all waether 'cos your probably going to encounter it! The worry that you'll be caught out is far to much baggage on your mind. Be prepared.
