Biarritz to Roncesvalles?
Hi there,
myself and 2 friends are planning on doing the Camino this coming July or August, but we don't know if we feel up to starting at St Jean yet, what would be the best way to get to Roncesvalles?
I'v heard people talk about going to Pamplona and than up to Roncesvalles, but as far as i can see ryan air dont travel to Pamplona, so Biarritz is the easiest place to get to.
would my idea of going from Biarritz to Roncesvalles work?
Thanks very much on advance.

Re: Biarritz to Roncesvalles?
You have 2 choices. A train to Irun and then Pamplona where you can get the 6pm bus to Roncesvalles.
Or, train to St Jean and then thumb a lift or take a taxi to Roncesvalles (no trains, no buses).

Re: Biarritz to Roncesvalles?
No one knows better than Sil ( I love your blogs, Sil), but I know a lot of people fly into Madrid, then train it to Pamplona, with a bus or taxi to Roncesvalles.
But there's a certain value to starting at SJPP, and taking your time over the Napoleon route by stopping at Orrisson. It's a great little albergue and makes the next day to Roncesvalles much easier. I thought I'd stop there myself, but I got to Orrisson at 10 a.m. and decided to keep pushing on, making it there sore and tired, but satisfied. If it's raining or foggy, though, might as well start at Roncesvalles.
Have a great camino!

HuskyNerd - coming from south of the equator, that is how I do it: Madrid, Pamplona, Roncesvalles.
If Shox is flying in from the UK both EasyJet and Ryanair fly to Madrid. Ryanair add on taxes etc whilst Easyjet usually advertise an inclusive fare so check the final costs.
