St Jean to Santiago in May/June 2010
Hello fellow caminantes!
I'm planning to do El Camino de Santiago (Camino Frances) in May - June 2010. I'm a first timer and my plan is to arrive in St Jean somewhere around 10th May and head off ASAP. I've got 5 weeks to enjoy the camino. I'm also a spanish speaker and am excited by the possibility to immerse myself again into this wonderful language.
I'm looking for anyone that is traveling around this time and any tips regarding personal security and weather.
Buen camino,
Wendy

Re: St Jean to Santiago in May/June 2010
There is no official route. In former times your camino begins along your bedside or next to your homedoor. So its only your own decision where you want start "walking" your camino.
In Bilbao i take the bus to BAYONNE, from BAYONNE the next Bus to SJPdP. It will last about 6 hours traveling by bus
Buen Camino

Re: St Jean to Santiago in May/June 2010
Hi Janine,
Yes and no. hahahaha I'm so confused with this whole thead thing on this site. I'm walking the camino on the 11th may from st jean. I understand that you might be starting around this time too? I'm flying in to paris and then by train to st jean. So i wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I also wanted to have someone to bounce ideas off and ask about their plans etc. If you are interested and your time on the camino is around my time...you can contact me on ...wanderingwen@yahoo.com.au I actually don't open any emails that i don't know...so if you decide to write to me...please put camino de santiago as the RE: in your email. If that makes sense.
Buen camino,
Wendy

Hi Gtlman,
That's great. Have you done the Camino before? How are your plans going? Are you flying into Paris and then catching the train/bus over? Let me know how your plans are going...it's good to speak to others that will be on the track.
Take care,
Wendy

Re: St Jean to Santiago in May/June 2010
Hi ,
Actually I've decided to leave sooner , i.e. April 14th , in order to avoid the crowds . I will be on the Camino for 6 weeks , ending my trip at Finestere and back home on May 31st . Have not done the Camino before , but have done a lot of research on the subject .
Regards ,
Gtlman .

Re: St Jean to Santiago in May/June 2010
Hi Wendy,
A friend and I are starting out from St Jean on about the 22 of May, we are arriving in Spain on the 20th, on to St Jean, have a rest day then start out. We are coming via Madrid. Logistically it worked out very well. I have a rough plan of walking for about 6 weeks, though I'm under no time constraints.

Re: St Jean to Santiago in May/June 2010
Hi to all in the above threads!
I'm in the process of purchasing my ticket from Canada. I'm hoping to start the week of April 18th from SJPP. I'm aiming to fly into Biarritz around the 23/24 from London. Is anyone else going to be in Biarritz around that time and would you like to share a taxi to SJPP?

Re: St Jean to Santiago in May/June 2010
Hi Sonal:
I have arrrangements for a taxi on the afternoon of Saturday, April 17th from Biarritz to SJPP.
It is through Caroline who you can email at apcaroline.hotmail.com. She had said she could take more in the vehicle. But, I know she has two others besides.
She is very prompt at getting back so I would email her.
Probably see you in SJPP.
Regards,
Louise

Janine and Wendy--I may run into you. I'll be starting on May 2 or 3 from SJPP but I'll be walking fewer miles every day and you may catch up with me. My best to you.

Hi and thanks Louise. I will be flying out of Calgary on the 19th and will spend a day in Amsterdam and another couple in London before I fly to Biarritz so will not be in SJPP till the 24 most likely. I wasn't sure from your posting if Caroline's arrangement was for the 17th only or if she does organize taxis for pilgrims any time? Guess it can't hurt to email her and see if she has a taxi I could share with someone on the 24 or 25th.
BTW, I'll have a light blue Gregory backpack on and probably a tiny little Canadian pin on it somewhere.
Buen Camino!
