Default From Bayonne to St. Jean?

How do most people get from Bayonne to St. Jean? Is it walkable or is bus/train the usual method? Thanks for the help.

I am making the trip from Biarritz to st jean on thursday.. there is a shuttle bus that goes rom biarritz to Bayonne (gare) and from there, there are about 4 trains a day from bayonne to st jean- the last once departs bayonne at 6.15pm and gets in at 7.30pm.. you can check the times on the SNCF website.. this seems to be the best way to travel from Bayonne to St jean and apparently the view are stunning.. i think the train is eur8.. also, the pilgrim office in st jean stays open until 10pm so arriving at 7.30 is not a problem.. the earlier train is at 3pm (gets in at 4.15).

I believe (although i could be wrong) that a taxi from bayonne to st jean is 85 euro, but this info could be outdated./

I agree - I got the train from Bayonne - five minutes off the train and you are at the pilgrims office.

I am just back from my camino, which i will talk about (how amazing it was!) in another thread, but on 2nd thoughts, I think you're better to get a taxi from Bayonne to St Jean, IF you can find people to share with- which shoudl be no problem, you can spot the pilgrims from a mile away!

I landed in Biarritz at 3.30, and i didnt get to St Jean until 8pm. There are only about 3 trains a day from Bayonne to st jean, so i had to wait 90 mins or more, then the train (which was awful by the way, very stuff and old) was 20 minutes late... I met people the next day who said they spotted pilgrims in the airport and asked them to share a taxi, for 4 people from biarritz it was 80 euro and they got to st jean 3 hours before i did, and it cost me 20 euro in the end as i had time to kill so got a pizza, glass of wine etc..

It takes guts to go up to complete strangers and say 'hey, are you doing the camino, fancy sharing a cab to st jean?'' but believe me, after 2 days on the camino it'll be 2nd nature anyway!
