    Default Santiago to Finisterre

Some friends of mine walked from Sarria to Santiago last May; they plan to go Santiago to Finisterre in September but can they achieve a certificate for this walk or need they bring "evidence" og having completed their walk last year?
Also, any maps of the walk through Santiago to Finisterre would be gratefully received.

The Santiago to Finesterre Camino is a self contained Camino (albiet short!) and you can obtain a second Compostela when you arrive in Finesterre. The Finesterre Compostela is a very fancy colourful document!!

You can use the space if any in the Pilgrim Passport used on the walk in to Santiago, or get a passport from the Pilgrim Office behind the Cathedral in Santiago.

You can only stay in the Finesterre albergue if you have the stamps from the albergues between Santiago and Finesterre. Autobus pilgrims have to stay elsewhere and no Compostela.

If you want to sit on the beach at Finesterre or on the headland alongside the lighthouse to watch the sunset which can be spectacular, allow a couple of days stay in Finesterre in case the weather is cloudy and there is no sunset!!

Many thanks Covey for your help, it is very much appreciated. Would you know where a route map for the Camino through Santiago might be obtained?

If you look on this website they have quite good maps.

    El ep

If you click on the individual stages there are more detailed maps. Maybe you could print them out.

That said, this Camino is quite well marked and I don't think you need a map.

Hey Covey another related topic to this discussion is how many days does the Santiago- Finisterre camino take? Also should I be trying to acquire stamps in all cities I pass to confirm that I indeed walked it and didn't arrive by bus? I have heard the more stamps that better. Thanks

3 or 4 days depending on how your legs are working!! Not too many cities between Santiago and Finesterre!! A number of villages and small towns.

    The basic "stamp" rules are:

Starting before Sarria: One stamp per day which is the albergue stamp

Starting at Sarria: TWO stamps per day, one of which must be the albergue. The other can be any bar or shop or church.

Santiago to Finesterre: One stamp from the albergues you stay in if you want to stay in the official albergue at Finesterre and get their Finesterre Compostella.

You can stay in any of the private albergues at Finesterre even if you did Santiago to Finesterre by bus and can usually stay more than one night. If you want to watch the sunset at Finesterre you might have to wait 2-3 nights for decent weather!!

You can collect as many stamps as you like in your Pilgrim Passport if you want. There are no extra Heavenly Points for doing so. The walkers seem generally content with their one stamp per day. The Autobus Pilgrims like collecting stamps to overcome their embarrassment of doing their Camino by bus!!

The Camino de Santiago route map (it starts in St.Jean) published by Pili Pala Press includes the route to Finisterre.
