Pamplona - St Jean
I have my trip planned out to get from Madrid via train to Pamplona and looking for a little additional information. Does anyone know the amount of time it takes to get to St Jean from Pamplona? And do you recommend a bus to Roncesvalles and then a taxi or go by taxi straight from Pamplona to St Jean.

Re: Pamplona - St Jean
Caroline from St Jean owns the Express Burricot taxi service and carts people over the hill from Pamplona to St Jean at least twice a day. She fetches them from the bus station in Pamplona. email her to book a trip - the cost will depend on how many are in the mini-bus taxi but it will be quicker and cheaper than getting the 6pm bus to Roncesvalles and then a taxi from there. Its almost 100km from Pamplona to St Jean.
You can book online here:

Re: Pamplona - St Jean
Thanks Sil, that seems like the way to go, with the only bus leaving at 6PM that makes getting into ST Jean difficult with the late hour Right now we have 2 people but who knows we may pick up some more along the way!

Re: Pamplona - St Jean
Sil, again, thanks for the information on this company. I emailed them yesterday and they got back immeditately and we are booked for 24 euros each from Pamplona to St Jean getting into St Jean at 18:00, the same time the bus leaves Pamplona by the way! Now if anyone else is traveling that day the price will go down so if anyone is interested contact Express Bourricot to arrange.

Re: Pamplona - St Jean, what train from Madrid for the taxi connection?
Thanks for the tip about the taxi from Pamplona to St. Jean. What time does the train leave Madrid and arrive in Pamplona to make the taxi connection? Which station in Madrid does it leave from? Is it a direct train? Thank you

Re: Pamplona - St Jean, what train from Madrid for the taxi connection?
The train we are taking leaves at 10:35 and arrives in Pamplona at 13:40 or 1:40PM for those not familar with the 24 hour clock. Yes, it's a direct train from the Atocha station. I believe there are 4 trains daily, one about 7:30 or so in the morning and 2 later in the day. Also when booking the train look for web fares and estrella fars when you look at the turista fare prices, they are 40-60% off, but they go quickly. You can get them through the Renfe website but not the Rail Europe or Eurail sites. What day are you arriving? Have you contacted Express Bourricot. They pick you up where you arrive, train station, bus station, where ever!

Re: Pamplona - St Jean, what train from Madrid for the taxi connection?
Madrid's Barajas Airport has Metro stations in Terminal T2 and the newer Terminal T4. Trains leave every 5 minutes from 6.00am to 2.00am. Line 8 goes straight to the newly reformed Nuevos Ministerios Metro station in the centre of Madrid, with a journey time of just 12 minutes. On your return it is even possible to check-in at this Metro station for some flights between the hours of 6.30am and 10.30pm. Please check with the airline first, because not all flights are available (e.g. there is no check-in for the Madrid-Barcelona shuttle flight, and many foreign airlines have no presence here yet). You can check in your luggage up to 24 hours (20 hours for some companies) maximum and 2 hours minimum before the flight but again, please check with the relevant airline because certain goods have to be checked in at the airport itself (live animals, dangerous goods, etc.). The price of a single journey to or from the airport is currently 2 euros, which includes a 1 euro supplementary airport charge. If you already possess a valid Metro ticket, you can simply purchase the airport supplementary ticket for 1 euro.
