2010
Hello to all you peligrinos. I plan to do my pilgrimage in 2010 and am concerned about the amount of other pilgrims. Also for this reason I plan to take a small bivwack type tent. I also think I will probably spend alot of time picking up litter along the way due to less conciderate pilgrims. Am I correct in thinking the amount of people will lesson the Christian charity along the way.

Hi,
I like your idea of picking up trash, there is a lot...worse is all the toilet paper blowing around in the Pyrenees, makes you wonder where you can sit down and eat your lunch
There are people who have dedicated their lives to pilgrims, so I don't think the charity will lessen a whole lot. Pilgrim's also offer charity to one another, and in a lot villages, it's what keeps people able to live there. Also, I think that if you are kind, humble (non-demanding), friendly to others, you will tend to receive the same back.
I think it might be fun. Look forward to hearing what your experience will be. I think the most crowded time will be around the Feast of Santiago, which is July, I think, also, in Galicia, since technically, you only have to walk the last 100 kms.
Best, L

Re: 2010
I was also wondering if anyone knows what to expect regarding lodging during the summer of the Holy Year. For those in the know, do you think that it will be very difficult to find room in the albgerges? We (my daughter and I) plan to begin the walk the second week of July so we might miss most of the heavy traffic, yes?

Re: 2010
With 2010 being a holy hear for St. James, I am guessing that the camino will experience more travelers than normal. That being said, it will probably depend on the season as well. I'll be starting around the 25th of February.

Re: 2010
Hey there. My 2009 camino was FANTASTIC. I have never been outside USA but everything went GREAT. I spent 4 days in Lourdes then went on to the Camino from SJPP. walked about 21 days and made it to Leon. then took train to Santiago and a bus to Fisterra then back to Madrid. WHAT an Experience....
