Hello,
Which is the best way to travel from Madrid to Sarria?

Is it possible in one day?
Can you suggest any good sites?

Re: How to travel from Madrid to Sarria?
A couple of options:
Option #1:
Train from Madrid to Leon (Renfe)
Train from Leon to Ponferrada (Renfe)
Bus from Ponferrada to Lugo (www.alsa.es)
Lugo to Sarria via bus (www.monbus.es) or taxi
Option #2
Train from Madrid to Santiago (Renfe)
Bus from Santiago to Sarria via bus (www.monbus.es) leaves at 18:00 for 3 hr trip
Option #3 (if you are pressed for time and/or have the $s to spend
Airplane to Santiago (surprising number of flights and surprising cheap)
Santiago to Sarria via bus (www.monbus.es) leaves at 18:00 for 3 hr trip
You'll need to dust off your high school Spanish for the www.monbus.es site, but the others are available in English. The Renfe (Spain's national railroad company) site can be confusing because it doesn't do connections easily, hence the necessity of planning Madrid to Leon, Leon to Ponferrada. Watch carefully that you don't get stuck on the milk train from Madrid to Leon. There's an express that cuts hours off the trip.
I didn't check the various schedules to see if this is all possible in one day, but trust that you can check that on your own. I'm guessing it'd be a challenge to do it in one day w/o flying to Santiago.
Hope this helps!

Re: How to travel from Madrid to Sarria?
Hi
Just a quick addition:
There is a direct train from Madrid to Lugo leaving Madrid at 22.30 arriving in Lugo at 07.04. This is a "Trenhotel" so you can book a couchette (a bed). They have fares mid-June from €46.70.
Also, for Santiago to Sarria, because there's only the one bus a day, if you need to travel earlier you can just get a bus to Lugo and change there.

Do you have any specific information (website, train line, company) about the trenhotel that you booked directly to Sarria from Madrid? I need to get to Sarria from Madrid mid-July. Thanks.

Re: How to travel from Madrid to Sarria?
Thanks Gerald. Do you happen to know how to get from Lugo to Sarria? Also, do you have the website or any more information about the train from Madrid to Lugo that you mentioned (trenhotel that leaves madrid 22:30 and arrives Lugo at 07:04)? Thanks for any additional information you have.

Re: How to travel from Madrid to Sarria?
Khal, How did you manage to book a train from Madrid to Sarria?. My partner and I are planning to leave Madrid 21st September 2010 at 10pm to arrive in Sarria on the 22nd September at 6am. We found the train journey on the Renfe site, but cant seem to book a ticket! We selected a sleeper for two, but for some reason it just keeps looping back to the home page. There is an option to register, but we have no idea how to go about that either. We are in Australia and are having trouble sorting it out. Any hints will be appreciated.

Re: How to travel from Madrid to Sarria?
Hi TerriG
I had a look at the English version of the RENFE website and I think what's happening is that you're entering Madrid and Lugo on the first page and then clicking Search. What you're getting is just the timetable. From the first page you should click on Purchase in the top right (under the search fill-in). That'll open another tab with the message "Search for and purchase your journey:" From there you should be able to select and buy the tickets. Normally you have to print the ticket.
Hope that helps!
