Re: How much it costs for the entire trip?
Hi Bindhii ~
Congratulations on making the trip! Costs are truly variable, depending on how much luxury you can do without ;-) . Another variable is the Euro/Dollar exchange rate, which has been blessedly improving (for us Americans) to the tune of $1.20 to 1Eu. That's the best it's been for years! So that means you can multiply every price times 1.2 to get its conversation to $s.
Others will have a different experience, but here's what I've found for prices:
Overnight in an albergue $0 to $10/night, so let's just say an average of $6;
Breakfast - cafe con leche and pain au chocolate $6
Lunch - bocadillo and coke and apple $8
AFternoon beer - $5
Dinner out - $15-$18, including vino tinto (menu del peregrino)
So let's say you're looking at an average of $40/day. This can be greatly reduced by eating at the albergue, though you're never quite sure what cooking utensils there'll be there. You'll also want to add some $s for the occasional ice cream bar, laundry, and blister treatment. I saved for the occasional hostel ($50/night) and even a massage in Leon. While the total isn't super cheap, it's way lower than the equivalent trip somewhere else in Europe. Oh, please plan a Euro or two per day for the kind volunteers at the churches you'll want to see.
Hope this helps. Buen camino!
