Welcome to the Forum. Here we are high on practicality and not so good on the theory, so if you need help and advice, you found the right place.

As 2010 is a Holy Year, the 25th July in Santiago is going to be a bit manic, so finishing in early August is a smart move. Do not worry about how fit you are. The trick is to start gently, and as your body gets used to your new found exercise regime, you can gradually increase how you far you do in a day. If the first day up over the Pyrenees sounds daunting, then stop the night at Orisson (booking in advance needed) and split the trip in to two days.

It is your Camino, and you should walk it your way. Don't be put off by those talking about 30/40kms a day. They often end up injured and hobbling around the Way telling their war stories. Just stick to what your body is telling you it is comfortable with. It might only be 15kms or less in the first week, but so what. When you feel pain, it is your bodies way of telling you "Enough!!"

A silk sleeping bag liner is enough and is much lighter and far less bulky than carrying a sleeping bag. I have done two full Camino's from St Jean starting in the first week of July and occasionally even the liner was too warm to sleep in. 30 bodies in a dorm generates a lot of body heat!!

Just take each day as it comes. Try not to plan too much and just go with the flow. The most important thing is to enjoy yourself or in other words, just give yourself to the Camino and it will take care of you.

Start walking early, and stop early!

I saw in the spanish forums that many albergues are already full at 12 pm. However nobody stay without a place to slepp. You have also private Albergues for less than 15 euros and you can book in advance.
    Good luck

It's a good idea to book, especially if you will be arriving late in the day at St Jean.
