Guide to the Camino Francés
ˇHola Perigrin@s!
It's been over a year since I made the post above announcing that I had written a free guide to accommodation and services on the Camino Francés. Since then things have gone great, I've had lots of downloads and positive feedback and even a few updates and corrections.
I've been busy too because I decided that the free guide was only the beginning and that I wanted to use the information I'd assembled as the basis for a full guide that would cover not just the basic stuff but also the history and culture of the Camino.
It's been a lot of work but it's all been fascinating and enjoyable. The Camino has an amazing history. From its "doubtful" origins to the role it played in the Reconquista and the creation of modern Spain and Europe. The Caminos in Spain and France are littered with extraordinary historic buildings – sometimes in the middle of nowhere – which testify to its religious, cultural, economic and political significance.
I wanted to create a guidebook which tries, objectively, to explain the Camino in its overall historical context and serve not only as a guide for pilgrims but also as an introduction to the history, culture, architecture and personalities of the Camino.
There are no maps or detailed descriptions of the route to follow because I believe that that isn't necessary on the Camino Francés, but if you want those then this guide wouldn't really be suitable for you. However, if you want a guide with a bit of historical background and up-to-date information about accommodation (I checked it all personally on the Camino this June) then check it out.
It’s available either as an e-book (which you can read on your computer or hand-held device or print out yourself) or in printed booklet form.
See my website: www.caminoguide.net/full There’s more information there too with a full description of the guide and a sample to download.
I hope you’ll like it ˇBuen Camino!
