Re: camino passport
I worried about that too, before I left. But it is really easy to get one at the first place you start/stay, such as the albergue in Roncesvalles, which is where I got mine. And if you fill it up you can get another one. The cost is between two and five euros.
Have an awesome time, take as little as possible, make sure your pack is well fitted and comfortable. I used Pacer Poles and just loved them, and continue to do my daily walks with them. I like the toned triceps, as well as the overall upper body strength maintenance and protection from ankle injury.
Don't expect to get free wifi in many places, but shopping centres in bigger cities can have it. (I took my iPhone, used it for photos, blog, notes, that sort of thing.)

Re: camino passport
I'm in Central Victoria. I walked about 550 km last September (the weather was mostly perfect, if a bit hot at the start). I had intended to walk all the way from Roncesvalles but ended up with tendinitis and gastro - possibly from too much Ibuprofen to treat the gastro- so bussed and trained it for 300 k or so to keep up with the time frame of the friend I made on the first day and walked with most of the way. I'm in my 50s and took time out from work to do the walk. Met lots of people who had retired and went walking as a way to mark the transition in their lives, and others who were trying to let go of relationships, or recover from bullying at work and re-establish self esteem, or just have an adventure. I loved it. My blog, if you are interested, is lindathestar.wordpresss.com I also made friends with the women who wrote this one The Progress of Pilgrimage who took a more religious approach, and had a GRANT to travel with.
It is possible to escape from the rat race, and it is a really good thing to do. And it isn't an expensive way to travel, either. Being outside in such magnificent scenery all day is awesome.

And I was walking for about five weeks, would have taken longer if my friend hadn't had a tighter timeline than mine. I recommend not being in a hurry.
