Gatwick to Bairritz is an Easyjet route.

As you may have spotted, this Forum tends to avoid "The Meaning of Life" and the "Which God is best" bit and deals with what is really important to the intending Pilgrim, and that is 1. How do I get there, 2. What do I carry 3. What do I need to know to make my journey a little easier.

You can worry about the Meaning of Life when you are sitting in the Cathedral at Santiago. It is the preceding few weeks that this Forum is best at!!

    Hi Nancy
Yes, I am checking my baggage AND paid extra for priority boarding. Easyjet boarding is a true cattle call and I have endured this on this airline as well as Ryan air many times. Not anymore!!! South Terminal is part of Gatwick Airport - just one of its terminals. There is very good shuttle terminal busing/trains so depending on your incoming journey, it should not be a problem. Having said that, I don't believe you will be able to connect if you are flying from Halifax arriving in the morning. I would recommend, if you can swing it, flying into Heathrow at least one day before via Toronto. There is an 0850am flight, direct from Toronto to Heathrow that gets you into London at 2100pm (9:00pm). Pricing for this flight from Toronto as of this morning is $1494.38 including taxes. You can easily via bus transport yourself to Gatwick that night, stay closeby in a reasonably priced hotel, sleep a bit and be ready for the next leg to France the next morning. Even better if you can get 2 days in London. Hostels are great there. I stay in one at Earl's Court that is one direct subway ride from Heathrow. Lots of transportation options to get to Gatwick the next morning (actually the middle of the night!)There are many options but, having flown to London and Paris several times, this is the one that is easiest in terms of getting over jetlag quickly. No overnight sitting up in an uncomfortable airline seat, unable to sleep, landing in a city that makes Halifax and Toronto look like tiny villages, transferring to another airport, etc. But, of course, depending on your individual plans, you need to plan what works best for you! It is all good! If you have the luxury of time, this might work best for you. I am lucky in that respect. Good luck!

On the evening of the 2nd Sept you are both invited to supper at my place in S London and then my son will transport us to Gatwick to catch the Black Sheep Express. The thought of public transport at that hour of the morning to too much to contemplate!!

I will be walking in September as well! I am starting on August 23 and walking until September 23. I will probably start at Roncesvalles.

Could I perhaps coordinate with someone so that we start at the same time? It would be great to have a walking partner, at least at the beginning.

Hi Covey, I am still trying to put together flight that will get me to Gatwick,"on time", to catch the Black Sheep Express! Either I can get there 2 days before or 1 day after! I will be hearing from another travel company sometimes today. Nancy

I would come 2 days before as the jet lag is much worse flying West to East and the last thing you need is to start the Camino when you are tired and jet lagged!!

    Hi Nancy,
I couldn't agree more. 2 days will be much better for you! If you need the name of the hostel in London that I can say from experience is safe and clean, let me know. I haven't done this walk before but have travelled alone a great deal, as a "mature" woman, staying in hostels, using public transit, trains etc in lots of crazy places. I only started my travels just before my 54th birthday and have enjoyed all of it, even the horrific parts are fun, after the fact! If you have any questions, stuff you just want to bounce off of a person who has done this kind of travel before, let me know. I'd be happy to help!
