First night in St. Jean advice needed on accomodation please
Hi
Well it is nearly time to embark on my first Camino, two weeks today! I am both excited and apprehensive, will it be too hot, will I be fit enough....
I am travelling with a friend and we are wondering if it might be a good idea to book ahead for our first night. We arrive in Biarritz at 16.15 so I guess it will be late enough when we get to St. Jean.
Does anyone have any recommendations and details on where to stay?
Many thanks
Gerry

When you get off the train follow the signposts, or the other pilgrims, to Rue de la citadelle. Number 39 is where they issue credentials for the Camino. They could also give advice on accommodation. In that same street/rue a number of places offer bed and breakfast in houses that are hundreds of years old.
It's a steep, cobbled, street with a church at the bottom beside the river. When you start the next morning you pass the church, go under an arch with a statue of a pilgrim on it, and turn left for the route over the mountains. To the right there are a number of shops where you could stock up on food for the first days walking. If you plan to make an early start you should do the shopping on the evening you arrive as they may not open that early.
