Default Taxi from SDC to Sarria

    Hi,
We arrive into SDC at 21.40 on the 17th April. We hoped to get a taxi that night and get back to Sarria. Any idea how much this is and how long it takes. Also a bit worried about getting into the hotel that late. Might it be better to stay in SDC for the first night? Cheers

I would stay in Santiago and then take the early bus through Lugo to Sarria. Someone will probably post the schedule.
It is very cheap and takes about an hour or so total. You can get to Sarria and spend the day and overnight then start early the next day...or just head out after you get there on the bus. Sarria is usually full of Pilgrims and worth looking around. You can stay at one of the Auberges.

Santiago to Sarria is a two hour car journey so the cost of a taxi will be very high!! The cost of the bus from Santiago to Lugo and on to Sarria is less than €10.

I seem to remember that the cost was quoted at 100 to 120 euro last year when my wife met me in Sarria. The bus was cheap and fast.

Thanks for the replies guys. The other travellers (we're three females) are still preferring the idea of just going straight back to Sarria when we arrive in Madrid that night and be done with it. Would safety be an issue - getting a long taxi that late at night and then trying to get into a hotel after midnight?

My advice would be to stay in Santiago overnight and take the early morning bus to Lugo/Sarria. You are assuming that all your arrival times in Madrid/Santiago are set in stone. You may be delayed at Madrid and are then faced with finding a taxi who will take you to Sarria in the early hours of the morning. So you arrive in the early hours and are tired after a lot of travel and are then going to hit the trail a few hours later? Get a life Ladies and get a bed in Santiago. Having rested and eaten well, then a bus ride to Lugo and you could even put in an afternoons walk just to get the legs moving after all the traveling.

The Camino is a contemplative amble through the Spanish countryside, not some holiday from Hell!

Thanks for that. Never assumed it was a holiday from Hell, just trying to iron out the details.

I think it would be better to arrive at Sarria by lunch and start walking then. My reasons are just a little different. If you walk half a day you will stop at hostels that are quieter, as most will walk the full day further than you. This being the case you will keep this patern up until Santiago - not a bad way to do it I think.
