Can anyone advise whether taking a small tent is advisable or will it end up just 1 more thing to carry that ends up getting left behind? Am leaving in the next week or so hopefully.
Thanks

No need at all for a tent -- there are albergues (hostels) on the average about every 5-8 kms on the Camino. Some people believe they want to camp, but when they realize that camping puts them outside towns and cities and away from pilgrim friends they usually regret their decision to bring a tent.
Buen camino!
The weight issue can be very serious.
It has been suggested by some to cut off 1/2 of your toothbrush handle to reduce weight.
The tent is really not a good idea.
I have come across many who carried their tent from St Jean, up over the hills to Roncesvalles, along the valleys to Pamplona , and then through the doors of the Pamplona Post Office where the tent joined large quantities of kit from other Pilgrims on its way back to where your journeys began. The postage is not cheap!!
