Santiago to Oporto for 13.30 flight ?
Is there a train service to Oporto city ? The bus leaves at 10.30 arrives at 1.15 which means I would have to go and stay overnight, cutting my possible stay in Santiago.

There is not train service across the Spainish border as Franco (for some reason) used different gauge tracks than the rest of Europe.
At least that is what I understand. I have taken a bus to Porto and than a train to Lisbon several times.
You may want to spend a night in Porto as it is a very lively and interesting city. Check it out on the internet.

Re: Santiago to Oporto for 13.30 flight ?
Grayland is right about the train gauge, but travel between the two is possible with a transfer at Redondela de Gali to the Portuguese system. I'm investigating this myself as an alternate way to get to Seville since I've seen a lot of Spain but never have been to Portugal. Check the www.raileurope.com site for your date. Buen camino!

Re: Santiago to Oporto for 13.30 flight ?
Both Lisbon and Porto make a very good after Camino holiday. They are actually closer than some of the Spanish cities that many visit after completing the way.
A good chance to see something very different than Spain.
I have been over most of Portugal many times.

Sandy
There is a train at 6.26am, arrives Redondela at 7.40 then one? departs Redondela for Oporto at 7.45 , arrives Oporto at 9.55 am ...do you know does this mean it is a straight transfer between gauges maybe ? sounds a good possibility. Another pm one leaves CdeS at 4.21,(5.52,5.52,9.55pm)However if we make it! into Santiago with a day's lee-way we may stay in Oporto one night and travel to airport next am for 13.15 flight, airport seems to be 15min out of city. We will be "tight" with 34 days allowance up to and incl 16th-17th to get to Oporto and fly out 18th.

Re: Santiago to Oporto for 13.30 flight ?
As I recall, the train depot in Porto is right in the main area of city. Many cheap hotel/hostle/etc in the area. A lot of young Euro backpackers and other tourists in the area.
I don't know where the airport might be.

Sounds like a straight transfer between the two gauges. Looks like a great plan!
