    Default Accomodation

I am walking the Camino from Astorga to Sarria later in May.
I am catching the bus from Santiago to Astorga, arriving 13.20.
After lunch,I will walk to Rabanal.
I hope to arrive at around 7pm. Will I be able to get accommodation at that time
    in a Refugio or Hostal?
    Many thanks,
    Cavanman

    Hi Cavanman ~
You should have no problem, given that it's May and assuming you can cover the 20 kms in the time available. The Rabanal listing show 2 refugios, 1 private hostel, and 1 hotel (I only remember the refugio and the hotel). The refugio is memorable because it's run by the British confraternity and the folks are very nice. I arrived there late -- about 6 pm -- and got a bed just fine. There's a nice little Evensong service at 7 pm at the tiny monastery and you can catch a nice meal at the hotel across the street. Buen camino.

Rabanal has expanded over the years and there is an albergue + bar on the road in to the village called Albergue El Tesin which has about 25 beds, plus the main albergue which is run mostly by British volunteers from Home page - The Confraternity of St James and there are two hotels at the top of the street.

The main road goes past Rabanal and on up to the Iron Cross Hill, and a spur road goes in to Rabanal itself. There is really only one street in Rabanal!

I will have to start an ordered set of notes to include gems like this Sandy, or maybe stickys on the map page-NB Evensong at the Monastery..oh the thought of it, I have no idea what evensong is ? (joke) but if includes singing I'm there, and a Monastery-I'm there too..Thank you so much.

Una if you want to hear evensong try Christchurch on a Thursday evening, I think it is about 6pm. A friend of mine used to sing in it and suggested that I might like it. Now I am not the least big religious and I really liked it.

It also appeals to my Scottish nature in that it is one of the few times you don't have to pay to go into Christchurch...

    Hello,
Many thanks for your kind advise. I found it reassuring.
Everything went well.I got accommodation in the hotel, La Posada de Gaspar.I stayed there before
a few times, when cycling alongside the camino on a road bike.
    I attended the Monks' service
It was my first time to walk on the camino and I found it very enjoyable.
I chose the section between Astorga and Sarria as that is my favorite part.
I was unable to leave Astorga until around 2pm,as my bus arrived to the town around 1.30pm.
I walked steadily to Rabanal with a ten minute break, 2k before El Ganso. I arrived in Rabanal
    before 6pm.
From there to Sarria I could relax and enjoy the route, the company of other pilgrims and the excellent weather.
I hope to walk another section next year.
    Cavanman
