Re: starting in Leon in august any tips
Leon in August will be fine. The Burgos to Leon "Meseta" section is hot as hell in August but you will be past there and enjoying the fine weather on into Galecia.
There will be a good mix of age groups as the students are wanting to finish by mid Sept when the schools and uni's go back. I have been through Leon twice in August and three times in September and either is good.
There are no UK flights to Leon itself, but Ryanair fly to Valdaloid which is north of Leon, or you can catch Easyjet or Ryanair to Madrid and either train it or get a coach to Leon.

Re: starting in Leon in august any tips
Hello,
i'm planning to start around the beginning of August as well - my biggest concern at the moment is finding suitable walking shoes in the hot weather - i wouldn't want to get anything too heavy & 'boil' my feet, but in the same time boots/shoes need to be with steady sole. any suggestions? i've read previous comments - would you agree that quencha or asics are good suggestion? i was suggested to try desert boots?...
thank you!

Re: starting in Leon in august any tips
I replaced my trusty Salmon boots which lasted four Camino's with a pair of Merrell Moab's and wore them down the Camino Frances last year, and they were excellent.
The only downside with the Merrells is that they only come in whole sizes. When you have your feet measured you need to be wearing the socks you intend walking in and then allow one size larger than you measured at. Don't be tempted to average down if you are in the half size zone as your feet will expand as they warm up!!
