    Default Sept Camino

Quick note to say hello. I'm new to the forum and decided about a week ago to change my 2-week travel plans in Spain to include the Camino this fall. I'm just starting to research and figure out travel plans from the US and might end up in Spain for 2 months in total. . Currently looking at starting in St Jean. I'm an experienced hiker with limited solo international travel experience. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

    Welcome to the Forum Mic.

If you do the Camino Frances from St Jean in France to Santiago, it will take you 34-38 days assuming you roughly follow the "standard plan" which is based on 20-30kms per day. This also allows for 3 rest days along the route. Most take a rest day or two in Leon to let their body rest and to get some decent sleep!!

If you are starting from St Jean, then it is easier to get to St Jean from either London or Paris as your European Hub. You can go to Madrid, but getting to St Jean is a pain and can be expensive.

From London you can fly to Bairritz (France)(90 minutes), catch a bus from the airport to Bayonne (25 minutes) and then a train from Bayonne to St Jean(1 hour).

From Paris you can fly from Paris to Bairritz, or catch the TGV high speed train from Paris to Bayonne.

When you finish in Santiago, you could walk out to Finesterre at the "End of the Known World" or go sightseeing in Spain or fly back to London with Ryanair.
