Starting in St. Palais, France??
On the website for L'Esprit du Chemin, a gite in St. Jean Pied de Port, they suggest that if you don't want to arrive in St. Jean and immediately begin the steep climb on Day 1, you can start two days' walk earlier in St. Palais, France. Arriving from Paris, you can get off the train in Dax instead of Bayonne, take a bus (1hour?) to Saint Palais, then walk to St. Jean via the GR65 and the extra two days are a good 'warm up.'
Has anyone done this and/or does it seem reasonable to do in order to ease into the Camino after a transatlantic flight? Thanks for any advice you might have.
