    Default Camino Frances Statistics

As last year was a Holy Year, many observers thought the numbers this year would show a fall, and they were right, however............

The number of Pilgrims who arrived in Santiago having started in St Jean in July 2011 was exactly the same as July 2010

The number who arrived in Santiago having started in Sarria in July 2011 (6900) were 3,518 less than July 2010 (10,418)

Last year when I walked the Camino Frances everyone was in a panic about not getting a bed, but the albergues were telling me the Holy Year numbers were less than 2009.

It was Sarria to Santiago in the Holy Year where the numbers were very high!! 3,500 less Pilgrims on the Sarria to Santiago stage this July helps keep the pressure on beds to a reasonable level.

    Default Re: Camino Frances Statistics

Covey, thanks for the info. I am starting the Camino Frances in a matter of days and this info gives me hope that I will find a bed along the way. As lovely as it sounds I think that sleeping under the stars is not an option anywhere.
    Thanks!
