How to get to Leon from Ireland?
Hi guys
Hope you are all well this afternoon
This is one for all the Irish folks here, or anyone for that matter.
I have walked from Sarria to Santiago in June and am very eager to get back and do another section. In March, I'm hoping to go from Leon to Sarria, bus to Santiago and stay for a day there.
My question is what is the best way to get to Leon?
Ryanair don't fly from Dublin to Northern Spain
which leaves me flying to Santiago or Bilbao on Aer Lingus.
Once I hit Spanish terra firma, I'll get a bus to Leon.
Has anyone else done the same trip?
Any reply would be appreciated.
Cheers
David

Re: How to get to Leon from Ireland?
Hi David,
Connections between Leon and Santiago aren't that great, so flying into Santiago isn't that easy. I'd think the simplest way would be flying Dublin to Madrid, then a quick train or bus from Madrid to Leon. Then fly back to Dublin from Santiago. I find the train from Madrid to Leon to be very comfortable and enjoyable. I've never taken the bus, but some people find it to be faster but I can't imagine it's as pleasant. So you can compare, the biggest Spanish bus company's website is www.alsa.es and the Spanish rail system's website is Renfe. Let us know if you need more info. Buen camino!

Re: How to get to Leon from Ireland?
Thanks for the tip
I hadn't taken Madrid into consideration but it looks like a good option. I've checked out alsa but haven't looked at Renfe yet.
Walking the final 100km had its benefits in that it was so close to the airport.
Thanks again

Ryanair no longer fly Santiago Dublin. An alternative is Porto which is a 4 hour bus ride away.

I wish I could travel to Porto but none of the Irish airlines fly there. I've decided on Madrid being the cheapest and easiest option.
Thanks.
