    Default Walking Camino August 2012

    Hi Everyone,

I've had a quick search but can't find what I'm looking for. I am a teacher therefore am limited to doing the Camino in the summer holidays. I am thinking about leaving on around the 23rd July, returning at the end of August, to give myself 4/5 weeks.

Can anyone tell me if they ever had any trouble getting accomodation last year in July/August? I am fully expecting it to be busy but don't fancy sleeping in a field. I would prefer to sleep in the albergues where possible as will be on a budget, although I wouldn't mind sleeping somewhere a bit more comfy on the odd occasion. I am not precious and don't mind roughing a bit if completely necessary but I don't want to be stressed about finding a bed all day.

Any advice and experiences would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks, SB.

The hostels were never so full that you could not find a place to sleep. Many many new hostels have been created. If you budget to stay in the slightly more expensive private hostels (ie not municipal hostels) you will never have any difficulties to find a place to stay. They are often smaller with anything between 4 and 8 slepping places in a room and cost on average about €10. The years when the Camino is overfilled is usually only the so-called holy Years, and that will not be in another 5 years again.

    Hi StrawberryBank,

I walked part of the Via de la Plata last September to Astorga and then joined the French Way. It was very busy from Astorga onwards and became a bit of a race to get a bed the closer we got to Santiago. Not to worry though, the Camino will provide and no one was turned away. Enjoy your Camino.

    Regards,

Thanks, that is really reassuring to know. I think I shall crack on with my planning.

    Best, SB.
