I just joing this forum. I am planning to do El Camino in 2010, traveling from Chicago, IL. Will like to chat to those of you who have done El Camino. I will like to take the French Road (Camino Frances). Any feedback will be welcome!

Hi Leslie! I saw a lot of your replies to others! thanks for the welcoming. I have been searching about El Camino for a while, and came across with this forum. I am very excited because it has tons of useful information. I mentioned I am planning to do the walk in 2010. Wish I could do it sooner, but I need to plan financially, etc. I do have one question: is it safe to walk alone, without a partner? How is it for a girl to walk alone? Anything you can give me will greatly appreciated!

I met lots of people - male and female - that start out walking alone. People form friendships and loose groups and often you meet the same people night after night.

In general I would say it is very safe, strangely people are very helpful and friendly on the Camino. If you look through the forum you will see this same question being asked again and again - I would suggest asking on these threads - some will have finished their Camino now and hopefully may tell you their stories.
