Default April 21st - 40 Days, Roncevalles to Santiago

I leave for Spain on Monday! I will have breakfast in Madrid on Tuesday and head to Roncelvalles (via bus) to begin my 40 day trek across Spain.

Look for the tiny yellow duck hanging from my very tiny backpack!

    See you there Pilgrims! 8-)

    Default Just returned

I am back from my 2-week miracle walk (Burgos to Ponferrada), and I am still walking on the clouds I encountered walking down the mountain beyond Foncebadon. What a special day that had been, it started to snow heavy flakes, and we finally arrived at El Acebo totally covered in snow....but it was beautiful, majestic, and awe-inspiring. A wonderful warm bowl of Galician Stew made us thaw at the Albergue.
To all who still have the travel ahead, and attempt this for the first time: Do not be afraid, you will find friends and kindred spirits from day one.
You will need, REALLY, about 60% of what you plan to take along...PACK LIGHTLY!!! You can wash (and usually dry) at every albergue.
Around this time of the year, you will find a bed at any time in most albergues, though not all provide heat or fully hot water in the showers...
Take plenty of vaseline and cover your feet in them before heading out every morning...NO BLISTERS HERE, my thanks for members who earlier suggested this...
Last, let me know if you find some of the little angels (stamp-size acrylic plaques) we placed along the way (from Burgos to Ponferrada). We did this on behalf of a Spanish Painter who is raising awareness to open our conscience and kindness to others...
I am doing laundry and packing away my backpack and boots, with stars still in my eyes, a stronger body, and a determination of spirit that will carry me through the next year, when we plan to continue on through Santiago and on to Fisterre.
    Ultreia!
