I prefer private accomdation. How difficult is it to find hotels? I very definitely will not be walking during the busy season. I hope to start in mid March and spend about 18 days on the walk.
Any comments? Thank you very much.

You will be able to find rooms away from the albergue system in most towns and even in the larger villages. Ofter the bigger bars will have rooms although technically they are not regarded as a private hotel.
Cost varies a lot, but a single room with bath will be around ?25-30 a night in the more rural areas, and up to ?40 in the bigger towns.
A couple of years ago I met an Irish lady whose husband had told her to use private rooms as he did not like the idea of her sleeping alongside strangers! She did that for 4 nights and then joined us in the albergues because she said she missed the company of being with her friends. I don't think she told her husband!
Over the past five years the number of private albergues has expanded rapidly to cope with the numbers walking the Camino Frances. They are a little more expensive than the official/municipal albergues, but have much better plumbing!! A lot of the official albergues have pretty antiquated plumbing and a hot water system which can give half the arrivals a hot shower and the later arrivals take pot luck. The private albergues usually have washing machines that work and a lot have driers.
A word of caution: Most private hotels do not have laundry facilities you can use to do your own laundry at a time convenient to yourself.
