    Default Starting at Sarria

I know that I have seen the answer to my query somewhere on the forum but I cannot seem to locate it. I arrive at SDC airport from Dublin on Tuesday evening next and need to travell to Sarria. I know there is a bus from outside the airport but could sombody please give me some idot proof advice as to which bus to get and which bus I need to transfer to and where. I am so looking forward to my trip that I want to try to make sure that everything is covered. Thanks

To get to Sarria from Santiago Airport you first catch the coach from just outside the terminal building to Lugo and at Lugo you catch a bus from the same bus station to Sarria.

The coach to Lugo is run by Empresa Friere.

    Empresa Freire S.L.

The tourist information desk in the public area of the airport terminal will tell you when the next bus is and point you towards the bus stop, which is 2m from the terminal door!

When you arrive at Lugo bus station go inside the passenger hall and buy a ticket to Sarria from the bus company window. All the windows have a list of where their services stop at.

If in doubt look for someone dressed like yourself (boots, baggy trousers and a pack!!) cos you are all going to the same place.

My first experience of the Camino started at Sarria when I joined my son who started at St Jean, but most of those on the bus from Santiago to Lugo and then on to Sarria were wearing boots, baggy trousers etc etc.

    You will not be alone!!

A lady once posted on another forum I used to contribute to that she wished to dress for the Camino in a way which did not make her stand out as a pilgrim.

The reality is that you can spot a pilgrim 5kms off. We all dress the same, carry the same kit and have a pack on our backs.

Have a look around the Santiago departure lounge at Dublin and spot who else does not look as though they are going to a wedding and you will find a pilgrim. Ryanair only does the Santiago run because of the pilgrim travelers and they fall into two groups.

Those who look smart are the autobus tourists and those wearing hiking boots are doing it the hard way!!

There is a regular coach service which goes from Santiago to Burgos and quite a number of pilgrims catch the coach to Burgos and start there, or catch another bus to Pamplona.

    Enjoy

There are also buses from Santiago to Lugo that do not go via the airport.Depending on what time you arrive you could get to Lugo quicker by going to Santiago bus station and catching a direct bus from there and not waiting for the bus from airport to Lugo.
Study the Empresa Freire S.L. timetable. A bus for Santiago meets all Ryanair arrivals, cost was €3.00 to Santiago Bus Station (last stop) last year.

If you are going from Santiago to the airport (15kms outside Santiago!) there are often TWO Empresa Freire coaches which leave the Santiago bus station at the same time showing Lugo as the destination.

One goes directly to Lugo and does not stop at the airport, and the other stops at the airport and at all the other scheduled stops along the road to Lugo.

You must buy your ticket at the ticket desk in the main passenger hall, before going downstairs to the bus departure area. Make sure you get on the right bus if you are going to the airport, otherwise you can wave at your plane as you drive past the airport on an express ride to Lugo!!!
