Question Does it get cold at night in July?

I am walking the camino from July 13 - August 8. Wondering about sleeping bag etc for night. Does it get cold or is a silk bag liner good enough. trying to pack as light as possible.
    Cheers

    Hey Sonya,
I'm going to be starting the Camino Frances July 2nd. What I'm bringing is a mummy sleeping bag (sleeping bag with the hood), it has a rating of 7C which I think will be plenty. It actually rolls into something smaller than most liners and cost almost the same.

    Costa.

There has been a lot of talk here about sleeping bags - most seem to think that during the Summer a sleeping bag liner might be enough.

I took my sleeping bag - big bulky and cheap - it was heavy and too hot to sleep in it during the summer.

    Pack & Shoe Dilemma

    Sleeping Bag Needed?

As you will read many will take only a liner and others a sleeping bag. My other half had a extra light sleeping bag - but it was very VERY expensive, however it was very light and did the job very well. She tells me some sleeping bags are for life, and I thought that was dogs...

I have walked three Camino's down the Frances route in July/August and Sept/Oct and have never used a sleeping bag, and just carry a silk sleeping bag liner.

In the albergues you normally sleep in rooms filled with bunk beds and they tend to put in as many beds as possible, so there is a lot of body heat around to keep you warm.

If you were going in Jan - mid June and Oct - Dec then you will need a sleeping bag as it can get chilly at night, especially on the Burgos to Leon section.

As Leslie points out, the lightweight bags can be very expensive and the not so lightweight bags can be bulky, so if you do not really need one, save your money.

If you are going to use a sleeping bag liner try and get one which is bug treated to keep any bed bugs away.

You should think about carrying a lightweight fleece, so if you do feel chilly at night in the liner, just put on your fleece and another pair of socks and you will stay warm. It can sometimes feel quite chilly at night in August, but that is because of the temperature difference between the day and night temperature, and not because it is actually chilly.
