Default Camino de Frances in June

Anybody walking the Camino in June? I am looking for advice on whether it is better to start in St Jean Pied de Port or rather skip and start Pamplona? I am from South Africa and it is all very new to me? How much exercise is advisable before the time? Any advice on what arethe important things to pack/ Will Ibe able to catch a bus here or there in case I run out of time?

    Hello adrienette

I'm planning from Pamplona hopefully on the 20th May (leaving Malta). It's my first time too, and everything is new as well, most probabbly walking solo. I'm from Malta by the way. Hope we meet on the way.

Hi Adrienette! We will fly into Bilbao on June 8th and stay in San Sebastian to adjust to "jet lag." The 6 of us are planning to arrive in St. Jean the following day and begin the camino on the 9th or 10th. My daughter, Kristen, will be the youngest (27) in our group. Her undergraduate degree is in Spanish and she will leave the U.S. in November as a Peace Corps member to teach English in sub-Sahahran Africa for 2 years. I hope that we will be able to meet you during our camino. I understand that there are no "strangers" along the way and we certainly welcome you. Peace and blessings to you during your preparation and camino!

    Peace,
    Michael

    Hi Andrienette!
Oh my goodness, I am so happy to find another South African on here! I live in Blouberg, Cape Town. You're from Hermanus? I love it there. I stayed there in November last year for my 'matric rage', and that happens to be the last time I did much exercise, besides hiking in the Drakensberg in January. So heaven help me trying to walk about 800km! It is so nice to know there are other South Africans doing this, because I am also really new to this and most of my friends and relatives seem to think I'm nuts wanting to do this, especially being all alone, only 18 and female. But I want to do it anyway. So lets hope I won't get murdered or anything. I haven't booked flights or made any firm plans yet, but I'm planning on starting from St Jean at the beginning of June. I'm flying to the UK in May and then I think my best bet is catching a plane to Biarritz (I think that was the name). I hope I'm not too unprepared, this is quite a big thing to take on . What are your plans? Are you flying from SA straight to Spain, or going via London/Paris?

Hi Andrienette, i walked in August 2005, not a good month too crowded and hot.I think June is good. Take as little as possible, a windbreaker/raincoat, a change of clothing ( shorts), 1 pair jeans. Don`t take a big pack, big mistake i made, you don`t need hiking boots, do alot of long walks before going. Don`t worry about starting on your own, you will soon meet up with someone compatible, you can bail and catch a bus anytime, learn some spanish, get a phrase book, nobody speaks english.
Contact me if you wish, cspray@mweb.co.za , good luck, Warren from Durban.

    Hi Kate,

Well I am also on my own and ill be flying directly to Madrid and then to Pamplona. Will catch bus from there to Roncesvalles and taxi or hike to St Jean Pied de Port where I plan to start on the 9th June 2008. Hope to meet you somewhere along the way. I would be very proud if my daughter wanted to do something adventurous as this at the age of 18. Good lucka nd you are welcome to mail me if you like. andrienette@hermanus.co.za

Good luck. ( I am also VERY unfit but have a few weeks to catch up before I go.)

Default Walking the camino in June

    Hi,
I was to have arrived in Bayonne (having flown into Biarritz) on June 8th to hopefully start fron SJPP but airline have changed schedule so it looks like we (my friend and I) may be starting from SJPP on 11th June. We intend taking it easy and enjoying the walk. I am sure we will meet up at some stage. It's looking like that sort of walk.
    Regards
    Priyanka
