    Default Not for me

I did this way last Jan/Feb. I was the first this year, so had no probs with accommodation. But I have to say that this was my least favourite camino. Many kilometres of road walking, of industrial estates and suburbia. I really didnt like it and wont go back again.

If you go there (and you should follow your own instincts, as I would) then at least be ready for disappointment.

Are you sure this was the Camino Ingles from either Ferrol or A Coruna? There are no industrial estates on this route and the scenery is entirely pastoral!

The first day passes by town and suburbia supermarket areas, with commercial premises around. The last day towards Santiago isn't ideal either. The pastoral section you mention has a bit too much road but otherwise OK. At least 2 of 5 days weren't great. A bit of road walking isn't terrible though.

Someone has spoken of the less than friendly reception they met overall, though I didnt find that myself.

It's good you seem to like it; others will too, so I hope they share their views one way or the other.

Just another published point of view which I found a moment ago about this walk.

The well known Peter Robins in his blog speaks of, "the tedious and urban sections from A Coruna and Santiago".

At least one person fully agrees with me that the beginning and the end are not good at all.

What a shame that JWalker didnt get back. I wonder if he was on the same route?

The Walking Pilgrim by Peter Robins, who has some very interesting comments on the Caminos.

You may have to Google it.

Johnniewalker volunteers in the Pilgrim Office in Santiago and issues Compostellas. He has walked most of the available Caminos and is usually found on another forum where he is highly respected.

We all have different impressions and reactions to walking the routes. Nice to see the different opinions. A good reminder to not have your mind set as to what you will find and what you may experience.

Thanks Grayland! Funnily enough, I too have walked most of the caminos and also volunteer each year on the caminos. There's a lot of it about!

I'm with Peter Robins on this one, and he is the only person to my knowledge who began walking the caminos before I did - 3 years earlier in fact, in 1987. A very dubious achievement on my part!

You are so right to tell us that we all have different opinions - which is one reason we post

You don't give your own opinion on the Camino Inglés - I assume you've walked it? If so, chip in with your view! Thanks in advance for sharing!!!

    Ultreia!

Sorry I've just noticed this. I don't usually frequent this forum and only dropped by to let people know about the new English section of the Pilgrims Office: Peregrinos a Santiago

In terms of the Camino Ingles I'd commend this downloadable guidebook to you: Pilgrim Guides on-line

I've just walked the route again and I have an updated guide with maps. It may take sometime for this to be posted on the CSJ website so if anyone is walking the route soon please email me and I will send you a copy direct: johnniewalker-santiago@hotmail.com

Reference previous comments including the quotation from Peter Robins. Peter and I work together often on various projects including the maps for the Camino Ingles guide. Since he wrote these comments the route from both Coruna and Ferrol has changed considerably. From Coruna at Portazgo the route now passes along a beautiful 4 kms stretch of river promenade before heading inland to the medieval pilgrims hospital at Sigras and on into the countryside.

From Ferrol the route now follows the line of the bay and pilgrims can either walk along the prom or walk along the beach.

The entrance into Santiago has altered a little too and brings the route through woods and lanes until about 4 kms before the cathedral.

    Best wishes

    John

Great to hear those first and last sections have been "changed considerably", so I guess others shared this concern. That's good news because this short camino is useful for those who don't have much time to spare, or for those with only a few days to use in walking.

Many thanks Nathan for your useful input. Like for Grayland, I wonder if you walked this way before or after the improvements? Is it better now, in your view?

If you have yet to do the Camino Inglés, no need to respond; I'm sure you'll walk there one day and enjoy it.

    Buen camino!
