    Default Toronto, Canada

Hi, I am going on my first Camino first wk of July taking the Portugučs Route beginning in Porto. I am a Canadian from Ontario, flying out of Toronto to Porto. Is there anyone out there from my area going around the same time or has anyone done this Camino flying out from Toronto? I would appreaciate any help available to organize my trip. As far as what to pack, gear and such I'm good it is mostly how soon should I book a flight and to where, if not Porto and then should I book a return flight right away or wait until I am in Spain as I also want to walk to Fisterra and back and not have to worry about
rushing back to take a flight.

    Hi Bella61,

Just got your email and was about to reply when I noticed you had posted. The forum has been upgraded and might take a while to get used to again.

    All the best

Hi Bella61 or anyone else who would like to respond,
I am very interested in your experience on the Camino. My husband and I are going to walk from Porto to Santiago at the beginning of July 2011. We would also be leaving from Toronto and are trying to figure out flights to Porto, as inexpensively as we can. I would be interested in knowing who you decided to fly with, what would you recommend for clothing , gear etc, did you like the route from Porto to Santiago? How long did it take you to get there. Is this route very difficult? Did you do alot of wqlking before you left? Was the summer very hot and how was the crowds. Did you find accomodations easily? I would be interested in any information you could help us with to get us started!
    Thanks,
    Karen

    Hi Doug,
What would be your best advice from your experience?
Also where did you fly into and leave from?

I flew Airtransat charter from Toronto to Porto via Lisbon and direct home from Porto.Best advice would be walk 20 km in a day to get the rhythm remembering there is a lot of alto on this route. I would pack light and try and set an itinerary as its important to have a goal each day.

Hi my wife and I are going on our first camino in mid May and plan starting from O'Cebreiro. We are from Markham, a suburb of Toronto. Our route is to fly to Madrid and go by bus to O'Cebreiro. There is no direct bus to O'Cebreiro and one option we are considering is to get the bus to Villafranca and local transport to our starting point. I am 71 yrs young and thinking of getting a double room at each stop and having our big back packs transported. We'd welcome any advice.

A friend and I walked the Portuguese CAmino last September. WE flew Iberian Airlines from Chicago booked through to Porto. We flew Iberia to Madrid, had a 2 hour layover and took a feeder plane to Porto. And since we toured around a bit after doing the camino, we were able to return from Barcelona. Whole thing was simple. Have fun!

Hi Doug, I am also from waterloo and thinking of doing the trip from Porto - you say you did it in 12 days?! I used to be a very experienced hiker but have not done so in a major way for a number of years. I am also over 50 and plan to walk alone next May-June. Is it safe for individual hikers do you think? I am female also. Thanks!!
