safety on porto to santiago road

I am planning to walk at the end of july the portuguese road - my first time. As I may be walking by myself I was wondering about safety on this road, which i understand is not as popular as the french road. Will i be able to meet other pilgrims on the way easily or is it pretty deserted? Should i try to find a group before going? thanks for your advice.

Its a great walk and it is very safe, I did the Portugese way in 2008 alone, and during the trip met some great people who have become my dearest friends. Depending when you are travelling you may need to book your stay on the way as this is a year of the saint and there will be a lot of pilgrims on the way.
