Wink From Ontario, Canada to O'Cebreiro in May 2011

My wife and I will be travelling to Madrid from Toronto, Canada in May and then on to O'Cebreiro to start our camino. Getting to O'Cebreiro from Madrid is not an easy task from the reading I have done. Is there public transit from, say, Villafranca to O'Cebreiro? Any suggestion would be welcome. My wife and I are both north of 55 yrs and do not relish sleeping outside. What is the availability of accomadation like at this time of year? Is calling ahead to the next town to secure a private room an option open to us if the pilgrim hostels get filled up?

    Hi DNoel~

Yes, it's a little hard to get to O Cebreiro from Madrid, but not impossible. The Alta busline www.alta.es has a bus that runs from Lugo to Pietrafita/O Cebreiro that takes about one hour and costs 4-5E per person. The overnight Madrid to Lugo train is pretty easy Renfe. Let me know if you need more help with the particulars. Buen camino ~

Thank you, Huskynerd. Is Pietrafita do Cebreiro and O'Cebreiro one and the same. They seem like 2 different locations to me.

Yes, they're one and the same. Remember that Spain has 5 major languages, and spellings often change between languages. Check out Pedrafita do Cebreiro and/or click on the "map" link on the Alta bus itinerary as verification.
