Equipment information request
Are these items of any use on the Camino ? My total pack weight is 5.5 kg or 12.1 lbs but I am trying to keep it as low as possible as I will be starting from Le Puy en Velay to Santiago. This would allow me to shave off close to 400 g.
1. Small travel pillow (14 x 28 in) weighing 255 g
2. Gaitors - 148 g
Thanks for your help. Merci bien

Re: Equipment information request
Congratulations on keeping your pack weight that low. You'll have one of the lighter packs out there, even for someone walking from Le Puy.
I always carry an inflatable pillow, a little smaller and lighter, I believe, than yours. I can't sleep well without a pillow. Some albergues do have pillows, but most don't in my experience. If you can't sleep without a pillow (like me), you'll want to have your own.
I see very few pilgrims with gaitors and I've left mine at home, as well. Because I wear a tall boot I don't get much debris into my boot, and I usually put on long pants for rain so I don't get much water in my boots from the top.
Buen camino!

Re: Equipment information request
I don't know what the route is like before st jean - but after that gaitors are not needed - it really isn't that kind of walking there are well trod paths all the way to santiago.

Re: Equipment information request
I took my gaitors on my Camino last year, I did use them when it rained, however I could have gotten by without them, the mud that I encountered never added up to enough to make them worthwhile.
