4 weeks but travelling extra slowly - doable?
Hallo/Hola
Thanks Leslie for establishing this forum. It is very helpful.
I intend to undertake part of the el Camino pilgrimage in April/May this year. I have four weeks but because I have restricted mobility and wonky balance (not to do with being unfit) I expect to only cover about 100km in that time.
My query is: Are there places to stay overnight at this sort of pace (would only be covering 5-10km/day) or is a 20+km stint needed sometimes to be able to get to another refugio/town?
I was planning on completing the last leg, starting in or near Sarria - but given the expected Holy Year popularity, perhaps there is another route (or even section w/out finishing in SdC) that has stopping often as an option and is not in steep terrain that might be more suitable? Any suggestions/recommendations are most welcome.
Buen Camino

Re: 4 weeks but traveling extra slowly - doable?
Doing the Sarria to Santiago stage is possible as it fills your distance criteria and brings you in to Santiago, BUT, April/May will probably be very busy on that stage and you might find the numbers a bit irksome. There are plenty of places to stay along the Sarria stage so a bed is not so much of a problem, but you will need to stop about lunchtime and find a bed. Any later and you might have a problem. There are plenty of private albergues now after Sarria and you will pay around ?7 per night.
If I were you, I would look at walking the Pamplona to Burgos stage. Less crowded, nicer countryside, and Burgos is nicer than Santiago.
Burgos to Leon is not really suitable as the albergues are much further apart and there is less choice of where you can stay.
Have fun.

hi there, i found a really fantastic planner online for the camino at: http://www.godesalco.com/plan/frances. once you enter your desired itinerary it actually gives you a report that tells you if where you plan on staying has private or public hostels, hotels and camping... it's great. i can't vouch for how accurate it is, but it will definitely help with planning your walking

... just have to note that it starts at Roncesvalles so you need to add SJPP to the mix if you are starting there which is an additional full day...

Re: 4 weeks but travelling extra slowly - doable?
Hi again
Tempted as I am by the Pamplona/Burgos leg and despite the slightly unnerving busy-ness factor am now meeting folk in SdC at the end so sticking w/ that section (this time!).
I've plotted things out using the itinerary planner that Amanda put me on to - very helpful but it does indicate from Arzua to Santa Irene there is no accommodation.
Ideally I'm hoping for something about mid-way in the Pereirina/Calzada region. Anyone know if this is the case (or if there is another thread that might help/offer a possibility for breaking up this 18 or so kms if needs be)?
Many thanks
