Hello Wenher....I have had friends walk the whole camino and state that they got fit on the way...I am walking up and down stairs at work in preparation as well as walking in the mornings before work....people of all fitnesses do this...I am a bit nervous about my lack of preparation but I have a reasonable level of fitness. When are you walking?

Thanks for the advice, well actually I'm still gathering information about this camino, I was in France last June and the friend that we stay with did this and I became interested, he stated at Vezelay, and he told me it took him at least a yr or prep both physically and psychologically, he did it for a year, finishing one phase and resting and continuing where he ends, I'm doing a one hr walk at least 3 or 4 times a week and I am on my middle age. Im thinking of doing it after a yr or two, when I retire, so I will have enough time to do it. Thanks again.

Walking in itself is relatively easy, so long as the shoes are good & well worn, you will grow into yr body while on the trail. If you are semi fit now, then no worries. People of all shapes & sizes are doing it & doing it well.

The only tip I would give you would be to get use to a 8kg pack on your back. This is the difference between home & the Camino. Go for some reasonable length walks with a Pack on, get comfy with it & then catch the plane, if you keep thinking about it, it won't happen.

There is a quote from harry Beckwith that I have in my office " It is tempting to sit & wait for life to come to you, but it can't, life is busy. Life is out there. You have to go for it."
