    Default Camino in March

Planning to go to Biarritz in mid March and start a week's walking from St Jean Pied De Port. What's the weather like? Are all the albergues open?

    Welcome to the Forum!

The weather can be highly variable in March and you might find that the Pilgrim Office in SJPDP advises you to take the lower "winter" route through Valcarlos rather than go over the top on the Route Napoleon to Roncesvalles.

Clothing is a bit of a problem in that you might have snow still in places, but on the other hand it might be a little like Spring. Layering is the answer for clothing, and you will need a sleeping bag. The "official" (State) Auberge's should be open as they normally open all year round, but some of the private Auberge's might not be open till Easter. However, the numbers walking in March are much lower than in May time so finding a bed will not be a problem.

You will probably find walking in boots is better than shoes!
