Default Are Cameras safe on the Camino?

Howzit guys. Can anyone give some advice on the safety of cameras on the Camino? I want to take my SLR but have heard stories of theft of SLR's when showering etc. Is it better to take a more basic point and shoot which can be stored in my backpack? Thanks

I took a nice little Cannon. I never heard of anyone getting their camera taken when I walked but I'm sure that's a consideration. With todays digital cameras my concern would be weight but good luck.

I took a small digital and just kept it tucked away in my pocket or at night in the backpack. No problems. A larger camera would have added unnecessary weight for me, and would have been tough to carry around otherwise. I took several pictures of Spanish people, after asking their permission, and a smaller camera is less threatening.
