    Default Diary

I've never kept a diary before. How much does one generally write each day, and what kind of light-weight book - bound or loose leaf- works best.

    Hi Alberto ~
Beautiful idea to keep a diary, or journal, of your camino. Everyone has their own preference as to what kind of booklet. My own preference is very particular: spiral bound at the top with a hard backing and about 1/2 or 1/4 normal page size. This works best for me because a side binding is difficult to write on and saddle stitching doesn't sit flat. My penmanship is more legible if I can find the kind I like. Enjoy your journal!

Did I see a diary/pad on your list? How much does it weigh ?I have never travelled and not written some account so will bring little note book. I also have a few cameras but! my small one has a very heavy charger adaptor so may not suit to bring it.

    Hi Una ~
I don't bring a "diary" per se, but do bring a notepad and pen. This time around I'm actually bringing a "legal pad" with a good pen as I hope to do some writing that I'll use in the future. The pad weighs too much, but I'm cutting back in other ways this time.

Just got my boots out and am wearing them now . . . . a little proud to see significant wear on the soles from 2 caminos and plan to add even more wear this time around. Time for one last trip to the outdoor store for little things . . . .

No more little things! I write with ink a lot, have a selection of writing pens, love nice, heavy paper, will restrict my need to bring with me as I may buy in France/Spain. One of my best pens is a Spanish small ink pen/nib my daughter bought for me when she was on an exchange university programme North of Madrid. When do you leave ? Begin!

Just wondering Sandy what brand your boots are - they must be pretty good to last 2 Camino's so far! Mine are Keens, they seem pretty good but I'm interested to compare. I've heard stories of boots falling apart on the way, that can't be pleasant!

ps, I have a spiral-bound notebook for my diary just because that's what I had lying around the house
I love the idea of keeping a Camino diary

Keens are great -- very comfortable. My Salomons are discontinued (bought originally in 2008 in Burgos), but are very similar to these current Salomons DISCOVERY GTX® - Back packing shoes - Hiking - Hiking - Salomon though with a little more leather. I like boots vs. hiking shoes for ankle support and prefer something pretty watertight since blisters start often with wet feet. Buen camino!
