    Default I'm Off Then

I leave in 4 days--a week in Amsterdam and Bruges with a dear friend who is also on sabbatical, then I make my way in stages to SJPP to start on May 11.

Thank you, thank you to this forum for your invaluable help and (if occasionally contradictory) advice. Everything from what backpack I should buy--Covey even looked up the one I was considering on the internet!--to boots to blisters to training to where to start and dozens of other questions.

I have been astounded, over and over, by the generosity of spirit I have discovered here. What a gift you have been to me, both practically and emotionally. And I even get to meet Sandy in Roncesvalles!

    Buen Camino--

    Buen Camino Rene.

We all have our own ideas about what suits us best, but at the end of the day, we all get a lot of pleasure in helping those about to set forth upon the Way.

    Stay safe!

Buen Camino Rene, Quick question, did you get the name for this thread from the book by the same name by Hape Kerkeling? Get book on the Camino BTW. The contradictory advise serves its purpose in that there is no "just one way" to do things, it's better to get various ideas, think them over and decide which works best for me, if it doesn't work you have alternatives! Looking forward to hearing stories from the Camino from you!

Enjoy your Camino! I'm a bit jealous that you get to meet Sandy haha!! Maybe some other year we'll cross paths. Also jealous that you start before me!! 19 days to go for me. I agree that the advice on this website and forum is invaluable, I can't thank them enough. I'll try to help others out once I've experienced the Camino myself.

    Buen Camino,
    Joe

I did indeed borrow the title of Hape Kerkeling's book. It just seems to say it all, whether you left on impulse, as it did; or spent a year planning and preparing as I did. Finally, we all have to load up our packs, kiss our loved ones good-bye, and say, "I'm off then."

Katkin, I'm sure we will bump into each other along The Way--I plan to take my time. I spend the rest of my life rushing around, so have allowed plenty of time for my trek.

Joe--you will be astonished at how quickly those last 19 days will go--and at how long your to do list suddenly seems to get!

And Sandy--cannot wait to meet you and your family.

    Buen Camino, friends--I'm off then.
