Default Weird people one can't get away from ! "on the Camino"?

On my home today from getting my Irish "passport" for the Camino I met a few friends on our local cliff walk (my training ground 12km in and back). One said "oh you are going to do the Camino" when? how far ? etcetc..I was introduced then to the local Methodist Minister and his wife. They expressed great interest in our coming adventure. BUT...in their words, they explained that they had been considering the Camino but went to the Pyrenees instead as they did not fancy the idea of "all those weird people talking to you and walking with you, maybe not being able to get away from them". Hahaha..bring it on.

It's the Methodists that have all the fun!! Northern Spain is not noted for the frequency of Methodist Chapels so we tend to concentrate more on the countryside and the friends we are traveling with.

I met a Catholic lady a couple of years ago whose aim was to pray in every Catholic church she came across along the Camino Frances. She quickly realised that the very high number of churches along the route was a serious impediment to her making much progress each day, and she kept losing contact with the pilgrims she enjoyed walking with, so at Azura, she announced that she had re-evaluated her plan, and would just go to Mass each evening where ever she stopped and that one Mass a day would suffice!!

On the Sarria to Santiago stage there is a small town where the route takes you past a nice church. Outside the Church the Priest in full regalia stands guard ready to usher Pilgrims into his church for a Blessing, a stamp in your Pilgrim Passport, and a suggested €5 donation. If you should cross the road to "pass by on the other side" you will run slap bang into his assistant priest who will guide your footsteps back across the road and towards Salvation.

Covey chanced his arm with the statement "Yo Methodist" only to be told by the Priest that he did Methodist Blessings!!! 20 minutes later Covey was back on the trail with a stamp in my Pilgrim Passport and a Catholic Methodist Blessing ringing in my ears!

    I was also €5 poorer!!!

Weird People?!?!?! I didn't meet any, well unless you count the English lady who tried to use the Civil Gardia as a taxi service. It was one of the most wonderful experiences of my life. I live close to San Francisco, Ca. (the land of fruits and nuts) so weird is subjective but everyone I met was super.
