Default From Pamoelona to St jean Pied de Port

We are to norwegian people who will stay in Pamplona until the morning 27 08 11. It is a bus or maxi taxi in the morning? Hope to start the Camino same day. Is it posible? How long must we go to the first hostels?

Try Express Bourricot They transport Pilgrims and bags every day to and from Pamplona and are very good and reliable. The cost per person for the journey depends of how many they are transporting in the minibus.

    Buen Camino

Sorry, missed the second part of your post.

The walk from St Jean to Roncesvalles is long, and is actually the hardest day of the Camino Frances. It is basically a 20km uphill walk to the top of the hills and 8kms downhill to Roncesvalles.

There is a rest stop/bar/albergue at Orrisson which is 8kms from St Jean and NOTHING after Orrisson until Roncesvalles. If you want to stay the night at Orrisson you need to book in advance as there are rarely spaces available on the day.

If you are being transported from Pamplona to St Jean, you will not have time to walk to Roncesvalles on the same day, unless you are all marathon runners!! The best thing to do is get a bed in St Jean and start at dawn the following morning and then you should be in Roncesvalles by 3-4pm.

You could save yourself a lot of money and pain and just start your Camino from Pamplona. You can get your Pilgrim Passport at the main albergue just behind the main square in Pamplona.

Although the route you are planning to take is called the Camino Frances, you are only in France for the first 10kms and then you are in Spain!! Many Pilgrims either start in Roncesvalles or Pamplona.
