    Default Your 'must have' item.

    Hello everyone.
I now have my flights booked, and am starting to get my kit together for a mid March walk on the Camino Frances. I have the important items, ie. boots, rucksack and waterproofs.
If you had to recommend just one item that you couldn't do without, what would it be? I was thinking that if everyone listed a different 'must have' item, then I would end up with the ultimate kit list! If your item is listed, then your next idea would be great. Thanks in advance for your recommendations.

Debit card to get easy cash from ATMs. You must have cash on the Camino. Otherwise, you will be severely limited in where you stay and eat.

mosquito in spain...particulary the north are rare
if you take credit or debit cards alert your bank to where you are going otherwise they may well flag up your card and put a stop on it
my tip of what to take is basic and wieghs not a single ounce....if you have a smart phone...make sure your spanish phrase book is on it....no need to carry a paper one.

now all we need a an app for the camino and we will all travel lighter!

The future has arrived (at least for Spanish speakers). Here's the Camino de Santiago app for iPhones, available on iTunes. App Store - Camino I used it in 2010 for the Via de la Plata and it was great. All the info is also available on the Consumer Eroski website.

Thanks everyone, these are all great answers coming through. I think its the little things, like the clothes pegs/large safety pins, that will make the Way all the easier to cope with!
    Thanks again

a small tuperware box to store small food items and friut to keep them safe and uncrushed.Maybe with the odd single serving condiments in it that you pick up along the way....my favs to look out for are mustard sachets and mayonnaise. A salami or cheese sandwich will not come with buttered bread in spain...and definatly not if part of a picnic
a pack a wet wipes for mid day freshen ups after lunch and those little emercencies along the way

    Hi all,
Travelling in march, take thermal longjohns and long sleeved top. They're lightweight and dry quickly. Buy ibuprofen in Spain. You can get 600m's very cheap.
    Buen Camino

Kindle. There are very few books in English in the shops I saw. On my next trip the Kindle will go with me.

    Hi Pam,
I was thinking of taking my kindle. But wondered if it will stop me from interacting more with the other Pilgrims?
Although, maybe I could download a guide onto it, to save weight?
    Anyway, food for thought!

Last year, when I walked, I became injured and was forced to spend a lot of time sitting with my foot in the air and resting on the way. I missed having a book to read while I was sitting/resting. I also missed hearing/seeing my own language. A Kindle will solve that problem.

I looked on Amazon and found one Kindle guide to the Camino. I hope that before I go again a better guide will be available with historical/cultural details of the towns on the route.
