    Default camino starting in england

I am at very early stages of planning a pilgrimage starting May 2013. I am considering starting in NW England and ending in Santiago. Just wondered if anyone knew has this been done before / any suggested routes / advice etc.

Lots of research to do before making decision to do it - grateful for any advice.

    Hi Ned !

Well, sir ... I am fairly certain that where you start from is not nearly so important as where you end up.

Exactly how you get there is not for me to decide. But if you take a step outside of your front door ... or back door ... or side door ... and move towards an airport that will put you into a place to pick up the Way ... you will be just fine.

RyanAir will certainly get you to a place to start. Begin there. Walk.

The Camino Frances is a good choice. Starting in St. Jean and taking 30-35 days to get to Santiago would be my recommendation.

Now if you can walk Hadrian's Wall on the Way ... that would be a good thing ! The Roman roads along the Way will be a nice connection to that trek.

Be encouraged, my brother. I suspect that however you do this, you will do it right. Let us know how it plays out !

Are you talking about walking through France also? A few months might be required.

I am in two minds. It would be fantastic to walk "from home" (near Manchester) to Santiago. But this could take 3 months - or more?
Alternatively I should consider walking from Saint Jean to Santiago - maybe taking it more slowly - say 5 or 6 weeks?

And by the way Ned, i will add to Alan's fine words..... where you end up, is not nearly important as the journey that got you there : )

Netia has it right, Ned. Walking the walk is what gives you the wisdom to deal with what awaits you at the end. Start walking, and keep walking, brother !
