Hello everybody… After a pretty miserable Christmas (don’t’ ask) I really need a break… and since watching “The Way” a few months ago on my daily commute intro London, I have been longing for the opportunity to walk some or all of the Camino de Santiago!
Well, I have a few days holiday owed to me from 2011 and I think I might be able to persuade my family to let me go off for a week for a bit of R&R they would probably welcome a refreshed and revitalised husband/father in return!
So hence my post – I would be flying from Southern UK (airports & airlines unknown) and I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to suggest a route giving around a week of walking? I am a pretty fit 53 year old male who exercises regularly and while my knees aren’t up to much these days, I can still climb a Lakeland Fell or two in a day. I believe I should be able to walk 15-20 miles a day therefore anything between 80-120 odd miles would be achievable?
Am I mad going in January – are there anybody else walking now, what is the weather like at this time of the year? Will I find food and accommodation?
I think that is enough questions for now – any advice, suggestions or anecdotes would be welcome and appreciated.
Many Thanks
Nick
